Ann Kok: I've thought of going to a sperm bank

At 40, is local actress Ann Kok past the age for marriage and kids? And is she still harbouring hopes of meeting Mr Right?

When it comes to marriage, Ann Kok says she is "past the phase" of getting married and having babies.

She says although it was part of her plan in her late twenties and early thirties, "it didn't happen that way for me."

However, Ann did think of having a child.

"I even thought of going to a sperm bank," the actress candidly reveals.

But after "looking at my siblings' children", and considering how hard it would be to be a single parent, she dropped the idea.

Here's what else Ann had to say in her interview on RazorTV:

Are you eager to get married?

"I think I've passed the phase of getting married and having babies. I used to think that I want to get married."

"For that, I planned before, like probably in my late twenties or early thirties. Yeah, but it didn't happen that way for me."

(Ann turned 40 in Jan 2013).

"I have a very strong thing for my family. So, having a family is kind of like my dream. But it didn't happen. So from there I try to get my attention away from that. Because it's not easy to just keep thinking that oh.. 'I want to have a relationship, I want to get married.. you know all this and that.'"

"Even though my friends, it's funny that they say 'oh I just want to get married' and then after that they get married so easily. Then how come that doesn't happen to me?"

"So, I just take it as probably well, that's my life. If I have it, that's a bonus. If I don't have it, then it's okay. To me, it doesn't bother me anymore."

Any thoughts of adopting children?

"Yeah... I even thought of going to a sperm bank."

"But now because I look at my siblings' children, it's not easy to bring up a kid, you know. And if I'm alone, I don't have like a partner to do it with me. It's going to be very hard."

Do you have any suitors?

"Erm not a lot. I think for me, I'm still the very old fashioned type. Like, I need to have love. I cannot just find a companion, just to keep me company. Yeah, I cannot. Or get married for the sake of getting married."

How many times have you been in love?

"Not many times. Two, three times?"

"Now, getting married is not important to me. If I find someone who's right and if we can be together, I don't think marriage is a must. Yeah, I can do without it."

Do your friends set you up with guys?

"They do set me up with people. Yes, but I'm glad my friends know what kind of guys I like and all that, so when it's not right, they would just say 'eh I'm gonna set you up with this guy. You wanna come? I know he's not your type lah but just come for dinner, make friends' and all that, so I'm okay with that."

What type of guys do you like?

"What type of guys? I don't have a type, I need to get to know that person. I think it's not about the things we talk about. It's more like.. if we can accept each others flaws. If you can see and laugh about it or take it easy. Yeah because for me it's not easy...for me now it's not about whether my schedule is tight or not. It's more like, are you taking me as who I am or are you taking me as Ann Kok, you know what I mean? Ya, I don't want you to be with me because I'm Ann Kok.

It's only when you get to know each other, then along the road you'll see and you'll feel it. That's why I said I need to get to know the person more before I can be in a relationship with him."
