Best taste for the face

Haba Moist White Beauty (left)

$49 for a box of 10 bottles (50ml each)

I was prepared to hold my nose and gulp it down.

After all, the collagen in drinks is from fish - I'm thinking fishy at worst or scent-free and tasteless at best.

So the fruity smell which wafted out when I lifted the box's lid was a welcome surprise. The inviting scent intensified when I opened the bottle.

Lulled by the familiar fragrance, I drank the product without a thought of what it contained.

Besides, Japanese products are of a high standard, yes?

All I knew was it had collagen and was 17 per cent fruit juice - blueberry, going by the pictures on the box.

And thanks to the smell, that scant information was good enough for me to take a gulp of faith.

I was rewarded with a smooth liquid that had a tinge of sourness. Much like fruit juice. The taste didn't linger, a huge plus point.

I only found out it was grape - not blueberries - when I read the small ingredients sticker (in English) at the back.

The product claims to be the "only collagen drink in the market that provides whitening benefits at the same time".

I'm not going to rave about its skin-tightening powers because I only took it for a few days, but my skin does seem a little firmer.

DHC Collagen Beauty 7000 (centre)

$49.90 for a box of 10 bottles (50ml each)

My Haba experience proved tasty, so I didn't hesitate to try this one.

The words on the packaging were also in Japanese, so I had no clue what I was consuming initially.

I had to sniff hard at the sealed bottle to pick up a scent of fruit.

The drink was refreshing, light, smooth on the tongue and just a tad sour.

I'm not a fan of bright pink and the packaging is an overload of it.

It turns out that there was information in English - on a sticker hidden at the bottom of the box, stating what the product is about, how to use it and how to store it.

For health supplements, such information is invaluable to the customer.

After all, I would like to know how much bang I'm getting for my buck.
