Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush.

Riding on the popularity of sonic cleansing brushes, Clinique has launched its Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush ($149, left, available at Clinique counters from Friday).

There are dozens of such brushes on the market but Clinique's version holds its own.

Review: The Swiss-engineered brush has only one speed option - the bristles vibrate more than 10,000 times a second - which the brand says is optimal for thoroughly cleansing the skin. That setting is similar to the level one speed of a Clarisonic Plus.

Clinique's brush head ($35 per replacement) is also unique. Unlike the round ones of most sonic brushes, its version has an ergonomic oval shape that contours to the face. The green bristles at the top quarter of the brush are stiffer while the rest of the white ones are softer. This design allows you to clean the hairline, T-zone and sides of the nose with the green bristles more effectively, while the white bristles are gentler on the drier and relatively more sensitive cheek areas. The USB cable charger is also a plus; you will not have to worry about taking along an extra adaptor when you travel.

I have just one gripe: with every push of the button, the brush vibrates for only 30 seconds before it switches off automatically. I have to press the button three times whenever I use it.

If you find that the other brands of brushes on the market are too abrasive for your skin, Clinique's gentler one might just be the one you are looking for.
