Host-singer marries class belle after contacting her online

He was the skinny nerd while she was the class beauty when they were classmates in primary school.

Back then, it would have been an unlikely pairing for host-singer Fauzie Laily and pre-school teacher Nurul Huda Abdul Khalid.

But six years ago, long after they left primary school and lost touch, fate brought them together again.

And on Sunday, Fauzie and Ms Nurul took to the dais before their beloved family and friends as husband and wife.

Among the guests was Mr Iskandar Sa'ad, 28, one of the few who has known both Fauzie and Ms Nurul since their days at Bedok View Primary School.

"When we were younger, the boys teased each other about liking Nurul because she was the belle," said Mr Iskandar, a senior executive for channel branding and promotions with MediaCorp Suria. He was Fauzie's schoolmate in Bedok View Secondary School and Temasek Polytechnic.

"Everyone liked her and wanted to be her friend. Some of us would stay back just to watch her play badminton... myself included," he added, laughing.

'Look good together'

When asked what made them so compatible, Mr Iskandar said: "Honestly, they look so good together."

After primary school, Fauzie and Ms Nurul, both 28, had lost touch before he contacted her on Friendster about six years ago. Romance blossomed, culminating in Sunday night's festivities.

The cosy and intimate affair included a romantic performance by Fauzie, who sang Heaven by Bryan Adams for his blushing wife.

It was the second day of a two-part wedding and took place at an amphitheatre at Bedok North Road, near Fauzie's home.

The dinner was attended by family and friends, including stars like actress- host Nurul Aini, radio DJ couple Fiza O and KC, football player Baihakki Khaizan and his wife Norfasarie.

Now that she is Mrs Fauzie Laily, the bride said that it would take some getting used to.

"It hasn't kicked in yet and a few hours ago I was still calling his mother 'cik' (Malay for auntie)," she said.

Now that they are married, the pair said they agreed that certain personal habits would have to change.

"I have to cut down on late night 'lepak' (hanging out) with good friends watching football," said Fauzie.

For her, it is alone time that she will miss the most now.

But those are small sacrifices for the beaming couple, whom throughout the interview affectionately addressed each other with the term of endearment "sayang".

On Tuesday, the couple took off for their honeymoon in Koh Samui, Thailand, for four days. When they return, she will be stay with her parents in Tampines while Fauzie flies off to Iran and Japan for filming.

In December, she will move into Fauzie's Bedok home while waiting for their own four-room, build-to-order flat in Bedok.

When asked about baby plans, the pair were in agreement about one thing - ideally, they would like to have two children. "I would like twins," said Ms Nurul, while Fauzie said he would prefer a boy and a girl.
