Two of Hong Kong's most sensational stories this week have taken a dramatic turn after it was revealed that the gunman who killed himself in a shootout at Kowloon Bay was the father of Liddy Li, the model who allegedly had an affair with married director Oxide Pang.
According to Apple Daily, Li Tak Yan, 51, was involved in a six-hour shootout with the police after he killed an air-conditioning technician and then locked himself in his home on Sunday.
Photographs of the incident show the gunman standing on the window ledge and pointing the gun at his own head. Li committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth.
The Hong Kong newspaper reported that the Li and his wife divorced after he had an extramarital affair. A neighbour Apple Daily spoke to also said that he had hit his ex-wife, adding that his two daughters were often heard crying.
His eldest daughter, believed to be Liddy Li, had not returned home to visit for a long time, the neighbour said.
Her identity was revealed after detectives found that his daughter, Li Ting, had the same mobile phone number and date of birth as Liddy Li.
The starlet had made headlines just last week when photographs of her kissing and holding hands with director Oxide Pang were published in the tabloids. Pang is the husband of Malaysian Actress Angelica Lee.
Both Liddy Li and Oxide Pang could not be reached for comment, Apple Daily said.
