Summer tie-up: Banana Republic

Summer tie-up: Banana Republic

Two heritage brands, Banana Republic and Marimekko, have teamed up for a limited-edition summer collection that is now in stores.

The Finnish design firm Marimekko was founded in 1951 and is known for its vibrant and giddy patterns, while the 36-year-old Banana Republic is famous for its classic silhouettes.

So expect pieces that blend the strengths of both brands, such as Banana Republic's iconic Hampton pants designed in Marimekko's heroic black and white polka-dot print. Other items include chic dresses (right) and accessories with the Finnish brand's "happy" prints.

Over the years, Marimekko has collaborated with several other fashion and beauty brands, including H&M, Converse and Aesop.

Marimekko creative director Minna Kemell-Kutvonen says: "At Marimekko, we are inspired by emotions. Life springs from opposing forces and the desire to contradict emotions - happy with sad, energetic with relaxed - is what makes our prints so unique."

Clothing ranges from $70 for a halter top to $270 for a dress. Accessories start from $120 for a clutch to $160 for a pair of ballet flats.

The 22-piece line that includes dresses, separates and accessories are available at both Banana Republic boutiques here, at 02-06 Paragon and B2-103 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
