Here is the press release from the Early Childhood Development Agency:
The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) announced the allocation of 17 new sites to its 5 preschool Anchor Operators. Collectively, these will provide an additional 1,700 pre-school places.
This is the first batch of sites allocated since the start of the enhanced Pre- School Anchor Operator Scheme on 27 January 2014. Both PAP Community Foundation and My First Skool were allocated 4 sites each.
The new Anchor Operators - MY World Preschool, Skool4Kidz, and E-Bridge Pre-School - were allocated 3 sites each. MY World Preschool will also have 11 of their existing centres brought under the Anchor Operator scheme.
The new sites are expected to commence operations in 3rd Quarter 2014.
The allocated sites are in areas of high demand. For the new Anchor Operators, the location of this first batch of sites took into account proximity to their existing operations. This is to allow the operators to reap synergies with their nearby centres and enable them to begin operations more quickly.
Moving forward, the three new operators will progressively have centres across the island. Allocation of future sites will be based on the operators' performance and expansion plans.
The enhanced Pre-School Anchor Operator Scheme aims to increase access to affordable and good quality early childhood care and education.
To meet the increasing demand for affordable and good quality pre-schools, the Anchor Operators are expected to provide for around 16,000 additional preschool places from 2013 to 2017.
