Ms Elfin Ng says she is now a more open-minded and needs-sensitive person, after taking modules in the inaugural master's degree programme in community leadership and social development.
The 44-year-old principal of childcare centre Smart Kids Educare is one of 24 participants of the programme, which aims to develop and equip participants with knowledge and skills in community leadership and social development.
"I learnt we need to find out and evaluate a community's needs first, instead of just going into a situation with solutions," she said.
On Wednesday, Ms Ng and 23 others received their advanced diplomas for the programme, en route to the master's degree.
The diploma was for completing six compulsory core modules. Participants of the programme include grassroots leaders and People's Association (PA) staff.
The certificates were given out by Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Ms Grace Fu, at the National Community Leadership Institute, where she is board chairman.
While the advanced diploma is awarded by the institute, the leadership development arm of the PA, the master's degree will be awarded by the SIM University.
Four elective modules and a dissertation must be completed for the degree.
