Food poisoning victims take exam in hospitals

ALOR SETAR - Six food poisoning victims from a wedding feast where four people died were among 37,945 Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) candidates who sat for the examination in Kedah.

State Education Department director Mansor Lat said two of them sat for the examination at the Yan Hos­pital, one in Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani and one in Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here.

Meanwhile, the two students in Yan Hospital said they still felt weak but were determined to sit for the examination.

Nurul Syakiroh Dahalim, 15, from SMK Seri Badong in Merbok said she was feeling a bit sleepy due to the medication but tried to focus when answering the papers, adding that she managed to do some revision while in the hospital.

Her schoolmate Nurul Asyikin Maha­mad Nor, 15, said she was sad since she was unable to sit for the examination with her friends in school.

It was reported that four people died in a food poisoning incident in Kampung Huma, Tanjung Dawai.

Three of them died on Monday, one died on Tuesday while 40 and 38 people were still being treated at Yan and Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital, respectively.

There was another tale of grit in Kota Kinabalu when 15-year-old Muhammad Izwanizam Suhaili sat for the exam with a broken arm and 24 stitches on the head.
