PETALING JAYA - From July 1, international students will be issued with an i-kad by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the card would be used as a valid travel document for international students in Peninsular Malaysia.
"The i-kad, with its emphasis on security as a strategic effort to improve the management of foreign students in Malaysia, portrays our responsiveness towards the needs and welfare of our international students," he told reporters at the launch of the i-kad.
Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the i-kad contains information such as the student's name, date of birth, passport number, name of institution the student is registered in, international student pass expiry date and photo.
"The i-kad will be issued by the Immigration Department through EMGS from July 1 for the purpose of new international student pass applications and the renewal of pass applications," he said.
