Giving a whole new meaning to 'treading water'

Don't rock the erm... "shoes".

Students donned giant floating "shoes" yesterday to compete in a "walking on water" race as part of the Singapore International Water Festival at the Marina Barrage. More than 900 young people from secondary schools and Singapore Polytechnic students took part in water-themed games.

The fifth edition of the festival was organised jointly by the polytechnic and national water agency PUB, and aims to create greater awareness and action on water conservation among the young.

Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Vivian Balakrishnan, the guest of honour, flagged off the dragon boat race. Participants made pledges on conservation and collected signatures from people.
