What began as protection against bullies has now become his passion.
Mr Damien Koh Feng Chang, 27, started exercising while he was in primary school, mainly to protect himself from bullies and improve his physical fitness.
The younger of two children said: "Older kids used to bully me and I started exercising to improve my strength and fitness, look good and release my frustration. As I exercised more, I felt better and stronger."
But Mr Koh did not think of pursuing his fitness dreams further then.
In his educational path, he obtained a National Institute of Technical Education Certificate (Nitec) in Information Technology and a Diploma in Intelligent Building Technology from Temasek Polytechnic.
He said: "Between my ITE and polytechnic days, my physical fitness improved and I was performing better at fitness tests. It was then that I realised that one could pursue a career in physical fitness and exercise. I chose Edith Cowan University's Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science) degree delivered through SMF Institute of Higher Learning due to the good reputation of the university. In addition, the curriculum met my expectations and I like the small class size. I am now approaching the second year of the programme."
