Tutorial Relationships (TR) was founded by Dr Gabriel Camara, who has a PhD in education from Harvard University and is the national adviser to the Secretary of Education of Mexico.
Dr Camara is known to be one of the world's foremost educators and his work became national policy in 2010 to improve academic achievement in 9,000 worstperforming schools in Mexico.
In 2011, about 78,000 teachers in Mexican middle schools (which are equivalent to Singapore's lower secondary) were trained in TR.
This involves peer tutoring and a structured plan in each session.
After a student is tutored by a teacher or peer, they are required to reflect on the lesson and create their own tutoring guide.
While TR has seen success in Mexico, how would it work in Singapore?
For Shuqun Secondary, it has shown some results - the Normal Technical maths results have improved in overall passes.
