NTU climbs 33 spots in 3 years to join QS top 50

Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU) climbed six spots in this year's Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings to 41 from 47.

The university has climbed 33 spots in the last three years, and is also only one of the two young universities (under 50 years) in the top 50.

NTU President, Professor Bertil Andersson, said, "Now that we are in the Top 50, every step up will be that much harder compared to when we were in the Top 100. Still, we have managed to leap by six places which is a feat, overtaking top American universities such as Brown and NYU, and just one place behind UCLA.

"It is clear that academics and employers around the world increasingly recognise the quality of NTU's education and research."

Its rise has been credited to an improvement in its scores in faculty citations, reputation among international employers, and student faculty ratio.

Mr Ben Sowter, Head of QS Intelligence Unit, reaffirmed NTU's meteoric progress. He said, "NTU is amongst the most dynamic of world universities and going from strength to strength. NTU is among one of only two young universities in the QS Top 50 Under 50 to also appear in the world's top 50.

"It has achieved all this in less than 25 years. NTU is truly a university for the future and their inexorable rise in the QS World University Rankings reflects this."
