NTUC First Campus dismisses teacher in childcare abuse case

SINGAPORE - NTUC First Campus (NFC) Co-operative Limited has dismissed the 51-year-old teacher from My First Skool at Blk 192 Toa Payoh, with immediate effect, following an injury caused to a child under the teacher's care.

In a statement to the media, a spokesman from NFC revealed that a panel was convened this morning to give the teacher an opportunity to explain what happened on July 5, 2013.

She has acknowledged that her actions were inappropriate and has accepted the dismissal.

NFC has since implemented some measures to ensure a high-level of care is being maintained at the centre.

The CEO of NFC and General Manager of My First Skool met with a group of parents from the playgroup class to answer queries and to address their concerns.

Two parents informed NFC that they have filed police reports. NFC assured the parents that it will fully co-operate with the police in these investigations. Additional parent engagement sessions are also being planned for the rest of the parents from the class.

Senior early childhood specialists from the HQ have also been deployed to support the teachers in the playgroup class to ensure the well-being of the children.

External professional counsellors have been engaged to provide emotional support to NFC staff affected by this incident.
