'Punk' hairstyle student who attacked teacher arrested

KANGAR - The Form Five student who yesterday attacked his 50-year-old teacher after being reprimanded over his "punk" hairstyle was arrested this morning.

Kangar Deputy District police chief Deputy Superintendent Ismail Che Isa said the student was arrested about 1am this morning at his house in Kuala Perlis, near here after the police had given him ample chances to surrender himself.

The police had also seized the weapon, a hand-held curved knife, which they believed was used by the student from the house.

The student has been remanded for four days until Monday to assist investigation.

Ismail added the teacher sustained a minor scratch above his right eyebrows in the incident.

The incident happened when the student, in his first day of school, was reprimanded by the teacher manning the main gate for the student's "punk" hair style.

A small commotion broke out and the student left the school compound only to return with his mother.

Another argument broke out and suddenly the student whipped out a sharp object and swung it across the teacher's face.
