S'poreans doubt English survey results

Sin Chew Daily reported that many Singaporeans were doubtful of the findings of a survey released by Singapore-based English Language school, Education First, which said that Malaysia had better English proficiency compared to the island republic.

In the findings, Malaysia was ranked 11th with 58.99 points among 60 non-English speaking countries around the globe while Singapore ranked 12th with 58.92 points.

A teacher, who wished to be known only as Lim, said the findings were questionable as English was the medium of instruction in Singapore but not in Malaysia.

Another English teacher, Peh, said she had many Malaysian students who were lacking in grammar and vocabulary skills.
