A picture of a teacher smiling while perched on top of a human pyramid of preschool children has drawn the ire of netizens.
The incident took place in a kindergarten in Changsha, China, reported citizen journalism site, Shanghaiist.com. The picture of the teacher sitting on top a mat that sandwiched two rows of children was posted by a parent on China's social media platform, QQ.
According to the site, a school official explained that stacking game, referred to as the "hamburger", is a common activity at schools in China.
The activity is meant to exercise will power, resilience and team cooperation. One official also told parents that the school had taken "safety precautions throughout" the exercise.
However, according to the Shanghaiist, an expert stated that while the mats should evenly distribute force to bear the weight of the children, it is still a dangerous activity because kids at the bottom are prone to suffocation.
