Calling all music and nature lovers: Get set to immerse yourselves in a series of free evening garden concerts this final weekend of May.
Organised by Temasek to celebrate the nation's Golden Jubilee, Jubilee at the Botanics will feature Singapore's musical finest - the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and the voices of Tay Kewei and Amni Musfirah - performing on the lush grounds of the Botanic Gardens.
To kick off the musical festivities, Temasek launched today (May 8) a microsite www.jubileeatthebotanics.sg. Hosted by AsiaOne, the site features exclusive music-related web content, and will be peppered with exciting contests and attractive giveaways over the next 4 weeks.
Also available on the microsite: A weekly online video series, hosted by talented local rising stars Tay Kewei and Nathan Hartono. The duo will lead viewers on an entertaining journey into the world of orchestras and classical music, giving you little-known fun facts and shedding light into how great music is brought to life.
Attractive prizes such as concert passes as well as premium subscriptions to music streaming service Spotify will be up for grabs, with pre-concert contests running on Temasek's Facebook and Instagram pages.
Singer-songwriter Kewei said she is 'thrilled' to be a key part of the festivities.
"Jubilee at the Botanics brings the best of Eastern and Western music to people in Singapore. This is a great way for me to reach out to an even wider audience," she said.
Homegrown singer-actor Nathan Hartono is equally excited about the collaboration with Temasek. "Coming from a contemporary music background, I came into this knowing very little about the SSO and SCO, but speaking to the members of both orchestras was such a learning experience. There is so much they have to offer - definitely something worth looking into!"
The festivities culminate on May 30 and 31, when concertgoers will get to enjoy some dazzling performances led by young conductors Moses Gay from the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Joshua Tan from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
For a full hour each, the two orchestras will play a selection of well-loved local and international favourites from Singapore's TV shows and Broadway musicals, interspersed with classics like Georges Bizet's Carmen Suite No. 1 that everyone can enjoy.
Kewei, who recently married fellow Project SuperStar alumnus Alfred Sim, will sing and play the erhu in a guest performance with SCO. Young up-and-coming jazz singer Amni Musfirah will show off her vocals in a guest performance the following day.
Gary Ang, Managing Director of Strategic & Public Affairs, Temasek said, "It is a milestone year for Singapore, and we want to create meaningful touch points for our communities. 'Temasek Presents Jubilee at the Botanics', aims to bring families and friends together to discover commonalities through music, bridging, and connecting through the love of music."
So gather your family and loved ones, prepare your picnic baskets and join us for an unforgettable evening surrounded by music and nature at Jubilee at the Botanics.
Organised by Temasek, Jubilee at the Botanics is an extension of the successful collaboration with Singapore's two national orchestras last year for Temasek's 40th Anniversary celebrations.
