Mother's Day Special with Tay Kewei

Mother's Day Special with Tay Kewei

On Mother's Day, every mom deserves a day of indulgence. It's all about celebrating the most important woman in your life. Although flowers and a cosy meal do the trick, it's hard to find a gift worthy of the lady who made you who you are today.

Over the weekend, we caught up with Singapore songbird Tay Kewei and Jubilee at the Botanics star to find out how she surprised her mom.

What did you have planned for Mother's Day?

I was working a full day on Mother's Day this year! But we usually have a family dinner, which is rare, given our work schedules. While on shoot, I filmed this song specially for her:

What does Mother's Day mean to you? Tell us a about your relationship with your mom and growing up?

Mother's Day is something my mum takes pretty seriously, so I try to make sure there is something planned every year to not disappoint her! Being busy with work and life, at times I take her for granted and leave her out of my priorities. But all that makes her happy is a meal together as a family.

My mum is my number one fan, and has always been loving and supportive. She tutored me in primary school, hand-copying questions in exercise books for me to answer. Because of her efforts, I topped my level almost every year in primary school.

I think I made her proud to have pursued my career dreams, and recently having settled down happily after a 10-year relationship!

What have been some of your favourite Mother's Day gifts?

There have been too many! I don't recall any specific one - but there have been handwritten cards, home-cooked meals, fancy dinners, an ipad, etc… I think as we grow older, spending time together and especially taking time out for family vacations is more precious than ever.
