$50k modified bicycle stolen at MBS, says cyclist

A man was allegedly assaulted at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) on Sunday at 6.50pm by two males, and robbed of his heavily-modified Italian bicycle.

The bicycle is worth $50,600 because of the modifications, which he added bit by bit over the course of 11 years.

Recounting the incident on citizen-journalism website Stomp, the 41-year-old, who wants to be known only as Troy, said: "One guy pushed me down to the floor, and another guy came and stole my bicycle when I was about 60m away."

He made a police report on the theft, which happened near Australian bistro and bar South Coast at MBS.

The police have confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.

After appealing to the public for information, Troy later found his bicycle with the help of the police. However, the bicycle had been badly damaged.

Speaking to My Paper, Troy said that the police found the bicycle in the bushes near MBS. He was relieved as he had been unable to sleep all night, but the total damage to his bicycle amounted to about $5,000.

Troy told My Paper that he spends two to three days decorating his bicycle, sometimes taking up to a week to install new designs.

He sometimes gets his wife to help out with the decorations, and has added about 200,000 Swarovski crystals to the bicycle.

The reflectors on his bicycle cost $2,000 and the LED lights cost over $10,000. There are also 110 stickers on it.

When asked why he devotes so much time and effort to this, Troy said that it is a passion and hobby that he does "for fun" when he "feel(s) tired".
