Bill shock despite no auto-roaming

Even though I had switched off the "auto-roaming" function of my mobile phone before I went abroad, I received a $400 bill from SingTel for overseas data use.

When I raised this with SingTel, it offered me a 10 per cent waiver of the charge, saying "your device may automatically switch to a mobile data connection even though data roaming is switched off" if the Wi-Fi network gets disconnected.

It added: "In such circumstances, you would be liable for the pay-per-use data usage incurred."

I would have preferred it if SingTel had warned me of this beforehand.
