'Compulsory' shopping trips: Natas replies

We thank Mr Darren Tham for his feedback ("Act on 'compulsory' shopping trips for tour groups"; Nov 13).

The National Association of Travel Agents Singapore does not dictate what travel agents can or cannot include in their tour itineraries.

The onus is on consumers to understand and accept the itineraries offered to them as well as the travel agency's tour booking terms and conditions. Should they encounter any unpleasant experience during the tour, it should be taken up with their tour leader immediately or with the travel agency from which they purchased the package.

We have always worked closely with the Singapore Tourism Board to take to task travel agents who infringe the Travel Agents Act, and we will continue to do so to the best of our capability.

Patricia Auyeong (Ms)
Acting Chief Executive Officer
National Association of Travel Agents Singapore
