Efforts to curb touting at Newton Food Centre

SINGAPORE - We thank Mr Philip Foong Soon Fatt for his feedback ("Touts still a problem at Newton Food Centre"; last Thursday).

Touting by stallholders or assistants in hawker centres adversely affects the dining experience of customers and tarnishes the image of Singapore.

Hence, the National Environment Agency takes a serious view on touting and will not hesitate to take enforcement action against stallholders if they or their assistants engage in this.

The public can also help by not placing their orders for food and drinks through these touts.

We have stepped up our efforts to curb touting at Newton Food Centre. Stern warnings were given to four stalls for engaging in touting activities in the past three months.

We will continue with such enforcement action, especially against any recalcitrant stalls.
