On the afternoon of Christmas Eve, I was travelling on SBS service 145 down Victoria Street when the bus stopped and a man boarded.
He was using a large walking aid and was moving slowly and with difficulty. The bus driver was very attentive and considerate as he waited for the man to steady himself.
As there were few empty seats near the front of the bus, one of the passengers stood up and offered the man his seat.
The bus continued on its journey and stopped a few stops later. The driver then alighted and assisted an elderly man in a wheelchair in boarding the bus. He then ensured that the wheelchair was secure before driving off.
I was struck by the kindness shown by the driver and the passenger. I commend the driver for his good work.
These are everyday heroes whom we should honour.
