Let children pursue own paths

Let children pursue own paths

Deepika Shetty's piece, How My Daughter Got Her Groove Back (SundayLife!, Feb 8) was inspiring.

More people should see the sense in what she did. She allowed her daughter to study the subjects that she was good at, rather than those which parents or society think their children should study.

Ms Shetty's daughter will find meaning and do much better in her chosen field. She would probably have trudged through an unfulfilling existence if she had been forced into an unsuitable career that her elders had decided for her.

If nothing else, she will most certainly be happier. And happiness is something Singaporeans can certainly have more of.
