SINGAPORE - We thank Mr Francis Cheng ("Design lockable box for mail trolley") and Mr Christopher Chong ("Mail theft: Questions from an affected resident") for their feedback on Monday. SingPost places utmost importance on mail security.
All our scooters and bicycles are fitted with lockable boxes to ensure mail security. We regularly remind our postal delivery staff to adhere to our standard operating procedures (SOPs), including not leaving mail items unattended at any point or duration of time. Field checks are conducted and we do not hesitate to take disciplinary actions against delivery staff who do not adhere to the SOPs on security measures.
We agree with Mr Cheng that despite all the stringent measures in place, we need to prevent any recurrence of such theft.
We are in the process of equipping postal delivery staff with lockable trolleys. This process will be completed within the next two months.
We also thank Mr Cheng for empathising with our postal delivery staff. Such thoughtfulness goes a long way towards motivating our staff to keep up our stringent delivery standards.
We assure Mr Chong that SingPost understands the severity of the theft and takes it very seriously. We have been working with the police and town council, as well as keeping our regulator, the Infocomm Development Authority, closely informed.
We apologise for the recent incident that resulted in the theft of the trolley containing mail meant for some residents in Woodlands. We have taken disciplinary action against the postal delivery worker, notwithstanding the circumstances that led to the theft.
To minimise any inconvenience to affected residents, we have been working with the major corporate senders and assisting them if they wish to resend mail to the affected blocks.
According to mail lodgement records, the majority of the corporate senders are service providers such as telecommunications and utility companies.
