Mailbox: Don't tarnish the image of naval divers with jokes

I am a full-fledged naval diver and I do not wish to see this movie happen. The reason is that we naval divers are the elite.

We do not wish our tactics and specialities to be exposed or too much of our beloved unit to be unmasked. Singaporeans who know Jack Neo and his movies associate them with his cross-dressing character Liang Po Po.

Naval divers do not want their image to be tarnished with such jokes. Jokes would make us lose the respect of other countries’ armed forces.

Would it be any surprise if they mock Singapore’s defence forces when our own people do such things?

You don’t see the US make fun of the Seals or the British make a joke of the SAS.

Indeed, they glorify them and recognise their work through very well directed movies and real life stories.

I am not asking for the production of this movie to be stopped, but I hope the message gets through that we could do without movies that make a mockery of the Singapore Armed Forces.
