MAS says committed to supporting families of crew

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) wishes to clarify that the RM2,000(S$800) ex-gratia payment announced to its employees last week also includes the next-of-kin of its staff lost in the MH17 and MH370 incidents.

MAS strongly denies that it was pressured to only include these families after intervention by certain parties, as indicated in the news report.

Payment for the next-of-kin had in fact been processed separately from the normal payroll system for current employees, to ensure that the families will be able to withdraw the sum paid to them.

This contribution is the company's small way of remembering its technical and cabin crew as well as staff and families who were onboard the two ill-fated flights.

The airline does not appreciate claims by any third parties claiming to influence the decision-making process with regards to this matter.

MAS reiterates that it is committed to providing support to the families of the crew of MH370 and MH17 throughout the difficult weeks and months ahead.
