MRT platforms not the place for buskers

MRT platforms not the place for buskers

Though there has been positive feedback for having buskers at MRT stations, I am disappointed that buskers will be allowed to perform at more MRT stations ("More platforms for buskers to perform"; last Monday).

MRT station platforms are some of the few places left where commuters could escape from the cacophony of noise everywhere along roads and public areas.

Hence, it is disappointing that even this brief respite from noise will be reduced when buskers are allowed at more MRT platforms.

In addition to this, there is a safety issue - the loud music and singing of the buskers may prevent commuters from hearing important announcements.

As much as we wish to support buskers, there are proper places for buskers to perform: The roadside walkways are numerous enough for all buskers. Moreover, not all commuters enjoy the music or performances of buskers.

I hope SMRT will reconsider this matter.
