Cylindrical laundry pole holders are mostly found in flats built in the 1960s and 1970s. They tend to collect rainwater, making them potential mosquito breeding sites.
Several residents of these older flats are aged and tend to be forgetful, so reminders to cover the holders will not help.
To resolve the mosquito breeding problem, perhaps a hole could be drilled at the base of the holder for rainwater to escape.
This can be carried out without costing the town councils a bomb, if they include it in their tenders for cyclical maintenance work.
