I am surprised that the spouse relief is only $2,000 per year, or about $5.50 per day, for those whose spouses do not have an annual income exceeding $4,000 in the previous year.
Even the maid levy relief is up to three times higher.
The cost of living is generally high in Singapore, and it would make more sense for both spouses to work.
It is no wonder that our social fabric has evolved tremendously over the last few decades. Children are now being brought up by maids, and the issue of work-life balance has surfaced.
Can the relevant authorities review this matter and give families more support?
