No children's section at Orchard library: NLB replies

We share Ms Grace Tan's passion to promote reading among children ("No books for kids at new library"; Tuesday).

We have children's sections in 24 of our 26 public libraries.

For some of our libraries, we have adopted a thematic focus that offers a richer reading and learning experience to reach out to users of different interests.

Earlier this year, we opened the Early Literacy Library at Jurong Regional Library, for parents and pre-school teachers to encourage reading among toddlers and young children. Close to Orchard Road, we have a beautiful green-themed children's library called My Tree House within the Central Public Library.

For library@orchard, we focused on design, lifestyle and the applied arts. Like the previous library at Ngee Ann City, library@orchard does not have a children's section.

We assure parents that the National Library Board will continue to promote reading among children through outreach programmes, community reading corners and reading spaces in libraries around residential neighbourhoods.
