SINGAPORE- Despite some criticism about Orchard Road ("Orchard Road not such a great place to visit now" by Ms Zaibun Siraj; Tuesday), I must say it is still a very beautiful street, in fact, even greater than ever before.
To begin with, Orchard Road is still a work in progress and so certain parts of it are bound to cause unpleasant experiences for some visitors.
However, by and large, the main thoroughfare between Orchard Central and Ion Orchard malls is truly magnificent, and a walk down this stretch is bound to win the heart of any visitor.
My friends from abroad were at a loss for words at how much Orchard Road had been improved, particularly outside Mandarin Orchard hotel, where you can now walk under a vast shelter and in such luxurious space.
Also to be lauded is the great improvement outside Wisma Atria, with its fantastic terrace offering tired walkers a place to rest and watch people walking by.
And though the light-up is not extraordinary this year, Orchard Central must be commended for putting up such a beautiful display of creative props and attracting a huge crowd queueing up to take photographs.
The massive crowd that turned up on Christmas Day when the road was closed proved that this street is arguably still one of the best in the world.
