Parcel received? Speedpost wants photo of customer too

I received a package delivered via Speedpost last Saturday morning.

I had just woken up, and opened the door to collect my package.

The deliveryman left my package on the floor, took his mobile phone out and started snapping photos of me, the door to my flat and the inside of my house.

When queried, he said he had been asked to take photos of the customers he is making deliveries to as there have been complaints of missing packages.

I told him to delete all the photos, which he said he did, but then he went on to take a photo of the unit number of my flat, and got me to sign on the mobile app on his phone.

I contacted Singapore Post, which confirmed that staff have indeed been told to take photos of Speedpost customers.

This is a shocking practice that is not common among other courier companies.

The deliveryman did not ask for permission before starting to take photos of me and my house, even though there are privacy, safety and security issues involved.

This is an unacceptable practice that needs to be stopped.
