Sad to read about 'exported' seniors

Last Sunday's report filled me with sadness ("Singaporeans pack JB nursing homes").

We are constantly reminded that we have an ageing population. There is a long waiting list at nursing homes here, and private nursing homes are out of the reach of many. The Johor option is, hence, a way out for some.

As we celebrate 50 years of progress, let us remember the aged who have been "exported".

These senior citizens helped build what you and I have today.

We are supposed to be a First World country. But our "not in my backyard" mentality when it comes to this issue puts us in the Third World.
