SINGAPORE-Elderly flat owners have various options provided by the HDB to unlock the value of their homes to meet their retirement needs ("Maintain supply of studio flats" by Ms Susan Tan Lin Neo; Dec 10).
They can buy a studio apartment, move to a smaller flat, sublet their flats or rooms, or opt for the Lease Buyback Scheme that facilitates ageing-in-place.
In planning the supply of Build-to-Order (BTO) flats, we consider various demographic trends, including the ageing population in Singapore.
We will continue to offer a wide variety of flat types next year, including a steady stream of studio apartments, to meet the housing needs of different groups.
Elderly home-seekers can look forward to studio apartments in Bukit Batok, Serangoon and Jurong West in the upcoming BTO exercise next month.
All Singaporeans can be assured that the HDB will continue to monitor the market situation closely and calibrate the supply of public housing accordingly.
