SINGAPORE - I applaud the initiative by Temasek Cares, the non-profit philanthropic arm of Temasek Holdings, to distribute emergency starter kits containing three N95 masks to households.
I hope other large corporate organisations can also work with the authorities to provide such services and play a part in our Total Defence.
Although Singapore is a relatively safe city, we experienced the Sars outbreak in 2003 as well as the more recent spike in dengue fever cases and unhealthy levels of haze.
All of us need to be prepared for these and other emergencies.
I hope the Government and private organisations can work together to provide free or subsidised emergency grab bags with items such as non-perishable food, a first aid kit and a torchlight to low and middle income households.
