Visitors help fund zoo

I thank Ms Deepika Shetty for sharing her outing to the Singapore Zoo.

Besides offering recreation for families and tourists, the zoo has evolved into a place that connects people with wildlife, inspires nature conservation and instils learning on natural habitats.

As a self-funded organisation, Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) has to ensure its financial sustainability. While we receive some revenue from sponsors, donors and grants, the majority of our revenue comes from admission tickets, F&B and retail outlets. Our revenue is ploughed back into the care of the animals and their exhibits, as well as conservation efforts and manpower costs.

We have also invested resources to maintain world-class exhibits, while introducing new in-park attractions to remain competitive and relevant. To enhance the learning experience of our zoo, we have installed interactive signages at all exhibits and organise outreach activities such as overnight camps for youth. As part of our public outreach, we work closely with partners to publish educational materials for use in school classrooms.

At WRS, we have a slew of pricing promotions for local residents such as students, senior citizens and families. Some of these include:

- A 30 per cent and 10 per cent discount for NTUC card holders at Singapore Zoo for weekdays and weekends respectively

- Free admission for birthday guests whose birthday falls on the actual date of visit - 50 per cent off admission ticket price for local senior citizens.

To thank the nation for its support over the last 40 years, Singapore Zoo is offering a 40 per cent discount for all Singaporeans and permanent residents this month. Please refer to our website at www.zoo.com.sg.
