Festive cheer for charity through 'Christmas Stories at IKEA'

Calling all kids and the young-at-heart - be captivated by IKEA soft toys as they turn into main characters in original tales, created especially by guest storytellers.

On Dec 13 and 14, head down to IKEA Tampines and catch unique show-and-tell sessions featuring special guests - including local DJs Rosalyn Lee, Glenn Ong and The Flying Dutchman, acclaimed children's book authors Adeline Foo of The Diary of Amos Lee series and Melanie Lee of The Adventures of Squirky the Alien, as well as journalist Clara Chow, whose works has appeared in The Straits Times and The South China Morning Post.

A first-of-its-kind event, "Christmas Stories at IKEA" is organised in conjunction with IKEA's global Soft Toys for Education campaign, whereby the IKEA Foundation will donate €1 (S$1.65) to children's education through UNICEF and Save the Children for every soft toy and children's book purchased from now till Jan 3, 2015.

Since 2003, the Soft Toys for Education campaign has supported 11 million children through 99 projects in 46 countries including Cambodia and Vietnam, and contributed €67 million to fund education projects worldwide.

"Not only are the IKEA soft toys good for cuddling, they are also created to help support children's development. Through this storytelling event, we hope these soft toys can help stimulate joy, imagination and creativity; at the same time, these toys will also go further to support education and improve opportunities for children in disadvantaged communities too," said Ms Caroline Ng, marketing manager of IKEA Singapore.

Locally, IKEA Singapore is going further to support local charity Food From The Heart (FFTH). For every IKEA soft toy donated into the 'Give Twice' box at IKEA Tampines and IKEA Alexandra, IKEA Singapore will match and give another to double the donation.

These soft toys will be given out as birthday presents as part of FFTH's monthly birthday parties.

She added, "We are glad to support Food From The Heart for a second year, and will also be donating a total of $2,000 on behalf of the best storytellers at this two-day event. Together with the public, IKEA Singapore hopes to raise enough soft toys to support FFTH's programmes and its beneficiaries throughout the next year, and spread the cheer all-year-long for them."
