He's first time lucky

SINGAPORE - His name will go down in the history of The New Paper Bonus Challenge as he is the first cash prize winner to bag $8,000.

Yet, when Mr Jonathan See was told of the news yesterday at 9.30am, he was half asleep.

Said the 26-year-old financial adviser, who was awoken by his excited father: "The first thing I thought was that it can't be an April Fool's joke. I usually believe whatever my dad says, but yesterday morning, the good news didn't immediately sink in."

Mr See, who has been a TNP reader since he was 16, said he didn't have any inkling that he was going to be lucky when he bought a copy of TNP a few days ago.

His father, who wanted to be known only as Mr See, attributed his son's win to beginner's luck. Said the senior Mr See, 59: "It's the first time we have actively participated in a contest in The New Paper even though I have been a loyal reader for more than 20 years.

"I had to double-check with my wife to make sure that the winning numbers I saw in the newspaper weren't my imagination."

Mr See was all too happy to fan the thick wad of $50 notes for the cameras yesterday evening as he collected his cash prize at the Singapore Press Holdings News Centre at Toa Payoh North.

Just do not expect him to spend his cash on anything flashy.

"I'm going to invest it (the cash prize) and make it grow," he said, just like a true financial adviser.

Still, there are more prizes to be won.

Here is what you need to do:Collect a bonus card with Monday's edition of the paper. Match the numbers with those published in the paper from Tuesday to Sunday.

Match a vertical row, and you win the prize shown at the top of the row.

Other than the cash, there are also iPad minis, Samsung Galaxy Notes and a Samsung Galaxy S4s up for grabs.

Additional Draw

Football fans will appreciate the fact that the Bonus Challenge will feature an additional World Cup Draw, where two lucky readers will get to fly to Brazil and watch three World Cup matches, with accommodation thrown in.

Sponsored by Komoco Motors in partnership with Hyundai, the official partner of the Fifa World Cup, each trip is worth $26,000.

To enter, register the serial numbers of the Bonus cards at www.tnp.sg/worldcupdraw

You can register multiple cards' serial numbers. There are also Xbox 360 consoles, Panasonic XS1 cameras, World Cup replica jerseys, replica World Cup footballs and World Cup mascot Fuleco plush toys to be won.
