SINGAPORE - Lianhe Wanbao (WB), an evening Chinese daily published by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), has launched its smartphone and tablet apps, along with its new website, on 9 September, as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.
From 10 October onwards, simply subscribe to any of the Lianhe Wanbao packages for a year and get a sure-win prize (subject to a lucky draw). Prizes include a Samsung 60" FHD 3D LED TV, a Marina Mandarin Hotel 2D1N weekend stay, a 3-night Penang/Phuket or Phuket/Langkawi cruise for a family of four on SuperStar Virgo and more! Furthermore, subscribers who opt for the All-in-One package for a year will get two complimentary River Safari tickets worth $50. In total, more than $120,000 worth of prizes will be given away!
The new WB smartphone app covers both iPhones and Android smartphones while the new WB tablet app is for both iPad and Android tablets. The smartphone and tablet editions offer WB in both native and PDF formats.
Both iOS apps for iPhone and iPad can be downloaded from iTunes Store, while Android apps for smartphone and tablet are available on Google Play. As of 30 September, there are already 103,241 downloads with 21,080 registered users for the mobile apps (iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone and tablet).
All apps can be downloaded for free. Lianhe Wanbao is offering a free trial from 9 Sep to 9 Oct that gives users full access to all content. Users can register a free trial account via Wanbao Online (wanbao.com.sg) or Wanbao apps. Deadline for registration is on 9 Oct, 2359hrs.
The PDF format will also be available on Wanbao Online (wanbao.sg or wanbao.com.sg) and Wanbao apps. Free registration with full access for smartphones and tablets started on 9 Sep and will go on till 9 Oct. One free trial account will allow the user to access all the WB digital platforms.
The paywall will be rolled out on 10 Oct 2013 and all registered users will be notified and invited to take up the subscription package, while they continue to enjoy a grace period of FREE full access till 18 Oct 2013.
From 10 October, charges will apply for subscribers, with the All-in-One package costing $4 more than the print edition. The monthly subscription to Lianhe Wanbao print edition costs $22.65, plus a delivery fee of $3 to $5, depending on the subscriber's household type (Print edition will be delivered by 7:30 am the following day).
At $26.65 per month, subscribers of the WB All-in-One package will be able to enjoy up to four concurrent access on their smartphone and tablets.
The new WB smartphone edition and tablet edition each will cost $24.65 per month.
Subscription for the smartphone and tablet editions can each be purchased from the iTunes Store at US$5.99 (approximately S$8) a week or US$24.99 (approximately S$32) a month. Users can also purchase a single copy daily from iTunes Store at US$0.99 (approximately S$1.20).
