Cartier celebrates launch of new watch collection with local celebrities

SINGAPORE - Cartier threw a two-day event to celebrate the launch of their new timepiece collection, the Calibre de Cartier Diver, on May 22 and 23, in the heart of Orchard Road.

Under the invitation of Gregoire Blanche, Cartier's regional managing director of South-east Asia and Australia, the event saw celebrities Fann Wong, Christopher Lee, Qi Yuwu and Sheila Sim in their cocktail best mingling with guests at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza as the French luxury fashion house, best known for its jewellery, let their timepieces take centre stage.

Fann Wong, who attended with her husband Christopher Lee, called the event "an impressive exhibition of Cartier's classic and contemporary timepieces".

Guests were entertained with live music by special guest DJ and music producer St├ęphane Pompougnac, who flew in specially from Paris for the event.

Cartier's iconic and contemporary masculine watches were also exhibited, giving guests an insight into the brand's aesthetic and technical innovations. Timepieces on display include the Santos de Cartier, Tank, Ballon Bleu de Cartier and a selection of Fine Watchmaking creations.

The event also highlighted Cartier's watchmaking achievements such as the creation of the Santos as the first modern wristwatch in 1904, and the Tank that was designed in 1917 during World War I.

Horology enthusiasts were also given the opportunity at the mens' watchmaking session to learn about the Cartier's meticulous fabrication process.

The event was designed by New York's top architect, Rafael de Cardenas; and part of his concept included digital platforms such as videos, 3D screens, touch screens, interactive books and tablets where visitors could get an up-close and personal experience with the luxury timepieces.

The new Calibre de Cartier Diver timepiece is a certified diver's watch, and is able to weather harsh conditions and extreme pressure. The elegant watch fulfils international technical requirements and is awarded with ISO 6425 certification, the international standardisation for diver's watches.

The indicators and hands are applied with superluminova which makes it easily seen underwater and in the dark. The luxury timepiece was also fabricated with 120 notches to enable half-minute adjustments, which adds clarity to its rotation indication, thus giving clearer time alerts to the diver.
