China painter Yau Yu Ngai's first solo exhibition opens this week

Singapore - China painter Yau Yu Ngai's solo exhibition featuring his traditional Chinese landscape paintings opens next week.

The 55-year-old artist, who was born in Hong Kong, started painting when he was 13.

He studied and learnt the nuances as well as principles of landscape painting under the master painter Lau Beng Hong, regarded as one of the top landscape painters of his time.

Yau is credited with injecting fresh energy into traditional Chinese landscape paintings through the use of his brush strokes and elements such as gold paper. His work has been the subject of many solo and group shows in China as well as Hong Kong. This is the first time it is being exhibited in Singapore.
