Youyou plays with light layers for Autumn Winter 2013-2014

When one lives in a tropical country like Singapore, it can be a struggle to find the right balance between comfort and style. While the national "uniform" of T-shirt, shorts and slippers does keep one cool in humid climates, the ensemble has been slammed for its sloppy look.

Singapore label Youyou understands this dilemma well. The brainchild of designers Jac and Zhiying, Singaporeans who have grown up in sweltering temperatures, the collection is a combination of their signature light, timeless and easy to layer pieces.

Aptly named "Light", the Autumn Winter 2013-2014 collection features lightweight pieces perfect for staying cool in Singapore's climate. Details like pleats, twists, gathers, peplums and faux layers all add flattering volume. Youyou's signature clean aesthetic is seen through the use of colour blocking but Jac and Zhiying have also experimented with both shimmer jacquard, to add dimension, and ventured into pastels to incorporate light hues in the collection.

The pieces may be light and airy - the box pleat tank and pleat flare shorts makes a great weekend outfit - but structure is not lost, just take a look at the colorblock boxy top and dress.

Plus, for a limited time, Youyou are giving away eight handmade clutches, each with a handy double compartment. Anyone who purchases a piece from the Autumn Winter 2013-214 collection and sends a photo of themselves wearing enters the competition to win one of the eight clutches. Check here for more details.
