10% airfare hike to take flight next year

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Mandarin Airlines, UNI Air, TransAsia Airways, Far Eastern Air Transport, and Daily Air Corporation have all announced planned airfare hikes of 10 per cent on selected popular routes starting from Jan. 1, 2014.

Airfare between Taipei and Kinmen will increase about 10 per cent on routes served by Mandarin Airlines, UNI Air, TransAsia Airways, and Far Eastern Air Transport. UNI Air's adult ticket prices will rise from NT$2,220 (S$95) to NT$2,445, while TransAsia Airways's fares will increase from NT$2,050 to NT$2,255.

Airfare between Taipei and Magong will also increase about 10 per cent on Mandarin Airlines, UNI Air, TransAsia Airways, and Far Eastern Air Transport flights. Mandarin Airlines' adult tickets will rise from NT$2,050 to NT$2,256, while Far Eastern Air Transport's fares will increase from NT$1,800 to NT$1,980.

Fares between Taipei and Taitung will also increase about 10 per cent on Mandarin Airlines and UNI Air, with the former's price rising from NT$2,238 to NT$2,462 and the latter's from NT$2,238 to NT$2,460.

For flights between Taipei and Hualien, TransAsia Airways will raise its fares from NT$1,455 to NT$1,579, a 8.52-per cent increase. For flights between Kaohsiung and Hualien, Mandarin Airlines will raise its fare from NT$2,095 to NT$2,305, a 10-per cent increase. For flights between Taichung and Hualien, TransAsia Airways will raise its fare from NT$1,921 to NT$2,071, a 7.8-per cent increase.

UNI Air is the only carrier that flies between Taipei and Nangang/Beigang and will raise its fare from NT$1,962 to NT$2,158, representing a 9.98-per cent increase.

Daily Air Corporation is the only carrier serving the Taitung-Orchid Island route and will raise its fare from NT$1,028 to NT$1,130, a 9.92-per cent increase.

Far Eastern Air Transport will raise its fare for flights between Kaohsiung and Kinmen from NT$1,942 to NT$1,988, marking a 2.36 per cent increase as well as the lowest movement in this round of price hikes.

TransAsia Airways will raise its fare for flights between Kinmen and Magong from NT$1,473 to NT$1,526, a 3.59-per cent increase and the second lowest movement.

Far Eastern Air Transport will raise its fare for flights between Kaohsiung and Magong from NT$1,588 to NT$1,658, a 4.4-per cent increase and the third lowest rise.
