4 hotels in Jakarta oozing with character

There are not many boutique hotels in Jakarta but these choice selections exude distinctive characteristics that combine modern and traditional elements.

Only minutes away from Kemang, this property offers a new and contemporary interpretation of the residential area of Kebayoran Baru in the 1950's, which was - at that time - an interpretation of 1920's Jakarta. Rates start at US$390++ (S$490) per night.

"We want to be uniquely Indonesian in character. That's why we also offer Indonesian menu corner for breakfast in our Jakarta restaurant, Indonesian sweets as part of the afternoon tea at the Majapahit Lounge and traditional acoustic live music throughout the afternoon at Majapahit Hall," public relations officer Anindhita Indira told The Jakarta Post Travel last week.

The hotel consists of a central square building flanked by two rectangular buildings, each forming two wings. The décor draws inspiration from five traditional decorating schemes: Java, Pasisiran, Bali, Sumatra and East Indonesia, along with appropriate artworks such as regional textiles, basket and weaving work, metal pieces, topographical pictures and lithographs.

All of the rooms - 64 guest rooms and 36 suites - have a private terrace, a marble bathroom with two vanity basins, bath tubs, executive desk, three telephones with two lines and high speed internet access.

Also included in its complementary services are daily fruit basket, 24-hour butler service, packing service and suit pressing upon arrival.
