It is heartwarming to read about new citizen Ramya Nageswaran and permanent residents (PRs) Damyanti Shahani and Shobha Punukollu raising $114,000 for a new fund to help Indian families in need ("Sinda launches new fund to help Indian families in need"; Wednesday).
Although they were originally from India, their act of giving back to our society is truly commendable.
It is my hope that their selfless act will change Singaporeans' perception of new citizens and PRs.
I also hope the Government would match donations dollar for dollar to boost the fund.
