KOTA KINABALU - Tours operators have not received official notice warning tourists not to visit Pom Pom Island following shootout that killed a Taiwanese tourist.
It is learnt that only two resorts are operating on Pom Pom Island which are Celebes Beach Resort and Pom Pom Island Resort, where the incident took place.
The resort spokesman said they were investigating the matter and assured that security was at the highest level.
"We are still taking in tourists if they wish to come here. They can place their booking with our office in Kota Kinabalu.
"At the moment, we are not preventing tourists to visit here and there are security forces safeguarding the island," he told New Straits Times.
Meanwhile, a Celebes Beach Resort and Tour spokesman said tourists could still place their booking if they wished to come to the island.
"What I can assure is that the incident did not happen in our resort and we are taking precautionary measures.
"At the moment, tourists can come and stay at our resort and there is no warning notice issued to us. Business is as usual," she said.
Diverse Borneo Tours and Travel reservation officer Alban Samuel said they have yet to receive official email or travel warning from Sabah Tourism and relevant authorities.
"Tourists can book for reservation but we will also contact the resort. If they say no problem, then we will proceed with the booking."
Borneo Tours and Travel too did not receive a call or notice to warn operators from booking a reservation to Pom Pom Island.
