Jetstar boosts capacity and expands network

SINGAPORE - Having taken the delivery of two new Airbus A320s, budget carrier Jetstar Asia is boosting capacity across its network with 18 additional services per week from Singapore to destinations in Cambodia, Indonesia and China.

The new services, which will include two more flights per week to Bali to make it a daily service, will be implemented from Oct 27.

Other services include one more flight per week to Hangzhou and Shantou each as well as the launch of three direct services to Phnom Penh.

In addition, Jetstar Asia is bumping up the number of flights from Singapore to Medan per week by four, while also introducing four weekly services to Jakarta, taking the total number of services to the Indonesian capital to 25 weekly.

The capacity boost translates to 17,200 more seats each month.

"Since 2009, we have been acquiring aircraft at an average rate of two per year," said Jetstar Asia's chief executive Bara Pasupathi. "In FY13, Jetstar Asia welcomed six new A320s as part of a fleet renewal exercise."

This will take the budget carrier's fleet size to 19 aircraft in the current financial year, with an average age of 3.3 years.

"The new aircraft will deliver lower costs and an improved onboard experience for our customers headed to popular destinations in South-east Asia and beyond," he added.

The beefed up services to Cambodia, Indonesia and China will enable the budget airline to carry over four million passengers before year-end, Jetstar Asia said.

It plans to ramp up frequencies to other existing destinations as well as add new ones in Asia to its network in the near term.

Jetstar Asia and its sister airline Valuair together operate over 400 weekly return flights to 21 destinations across 13 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region.
